Awesome that you had this epiphany all of the sudden. It took you long enough. Everybody wants to be loved. But love which we give is what counts. You can't be selfish all the time. It's ok to be selfish a little bit. Just a little bit.

I'm glad for you, and especially that you have 'amazing friends' - they can be thin on the ground - but I'm not sure what kind of 'love' you mean. Have your friends gone through divorce? Thankfully I haven't, but I have friends who have gone through awful marital break-ups that have torn away at their children too. I surrounded by the remnants of people who felt incredible love for people and have had it destroyed. Like they had it as their own, gave it and shared it, and all for pain as a return. But like you say, it remains in you as a seed. Despite all the gory dismemberment of their lives as couples and families, I still see a nobility and a love in them. I guess I have amazing friends too.
